An onigiri smushed at the bottom of your bag. Water splashing off a spoon. Burnt toast. Life is full of small disappointments. But helping us see the humor in it all is Makosun, a Japanese maker of weird plushies—their words, not ours—who renders all these small disappointments as handmade plushies.

And this weekend was full of small disappointments as a collection of the plushies were assembled under one roof for a pop-up exhibition in the outskirts of Tokyo. Taking place at Ao Gallery for 2 days only (October 5-6, 2024) is the Exhibition of Plushie Small Disappointments.
If you missed the exhibition, not to worry. You can check out Makosun’s online store where they sell all kinds of strange plushies.
