Goldwin, the Japanese outdoor apparel company, has unveiled plans for an ambitious new project: the Play Earth Park Naturing Forest. Set to open in the summer of 2027, this expansive nature-themed facility will be located in Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture, the birthplace of Goldwin. Spanning approximately 100 acres, the park aims to offer immersive experiences that connect visitors with nature, aligning with Goldwin’s “PLAY EARTH 2030” vision.

The Play Earth Park Naturing Forest is designed to be more than just a recreational area; it’s envisioned as a place where both children and adults can engage with the natural environment in meaningful ways. The park will be divided into three main areas: the park area, a section that will feature playgrounds that utilize the natural terrain, the forest area centered around an observation tower designed by the Lebanese architect Lina Ghotmeh, and the garden area which will take inspiration from the historic 72 microseasons.

The park’s design emphasizes sustainability and harmony with the environment. The Plaza Building, serving as the park’s entrance, aims to achieve Japan’s first “Living Building Challenge” certification. Constructed using local timber, it will incorporate rainwater utilization, solar power, and recycled materials to minimize environmental impact.

The landscape design, led by Takano Landscape Planning and British landscape designer Dan Pearson, seeks to integrate the diverse natural features of the area—lakes, hills, forests, and rice fields—into a cohesive and beautiful environment.

Nanto City’s Mayor, Mikio Tanaka, expressed strong support for the project, highlighting the community’s enthusiasm and the city’s commitment to sustainability and respect for nature. Goldwin anticipates that the park will attract between 1 to 1.5 million visitors annually after the aniticpated opening date of summer 2027, offering them opportunities to learn, play, and connect with the natural world.
