The Yakitorill is our Kitchen Appliance of 2025

Yakitori lovers take note. Grilling yakitori at home just got a lot easier thanks to the new Yakitorill: a combination of the words yakitori and grill. This beautiful kitchen appliance, developed by Fukuoka-based firm Guardner, promises less smoke and an overall cleaner experience, making makes at-home yakitori parties less messier and more stylish.

Resembling a compact toaster, the Yakitorill incorporates a number of innovative designs aimed at making yakitori grilling easier. The first and arguably most-important is the heat source, which promises to eliminate smoke by heating only from the top, which keeps that fat from burning. Skewer locks also make it easy to rotate the chicken, ensuring you get an even grill across the yakitori. Other design choices include a splash guard that keeps your table grease-free and a serving plate that keeps the skewers warm.

The company that developed the Yakitorill is Fukuoka-based Guardner, who has made a name for themselves by creating other niche products like a portable shampoo device and toe massager.

Last year, the company launched a successful crowdfunding campaign for their Yakitorill, which saw over 300 backers who were the first to receive their very own Yakitorill. The device went on sale to the public on December 31, 2024 and retails for 22,000 yen.
